Community Service
First Lutheran highly values accompanying people and serving our community. Here are some ways we live this out:
Every Meal: First Lutheran serves as the sponsoring congregation for Prairie Elementary. We contribute financially towards this effort and also distribute over a hundred meals each week to students. Volunteers aid in putting the bags of food in the lockers of local students. See https://www.everymeal.org for more information about the program.
God’s Work Our Hands Sunday:
This event generally happens in early September. “This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.” (www.elca.org) Service projects have included playing Bingo with residents at the Sunshine apartments, creating care bags for shut-in members, bundling food for school students in need, creating bags for World Relief, painting, church maintenance projects and more. See https://www.elca.org/dayofservice for more church wide information.
As a Love INC member congregation we have provided board members, financial support and prayer support to our community. Specifically we help provide outdoor winter clothing items (coats, boots, snow pants, gloves, etc.) to families in need. We also have a furniture delivery team that periodically helps Love INC deliver furniture to community members in need. Contact us to be involved!
