Pastor’s blog 11/3/10 The precious Gospel
November 3, 2010
Yesterday Negasse stopped by my office to talk with me about the church he is starting in Worthington. He is evangelizing people from the Ethopian community. We had a lively discussion as we had a common connection. We both know Belina Sarka who is a Lutheran Ethiopian pastor who has traveled widely in the United States to speak about the Ethopian people and their struggles. I knew 2 of Belina’s children many years ago because they escaped from Ethiopia and were raised by him and his wife in Hawaii. His boys left Ethiopia so that they would not have to serve in the army under the rule of the Dictator at that time. Talking with Negasse brought back many memories of that time. Negasse’s main reason for visiting me was to find out what he needed to do to be recognized by the government as a church. He is an impressive man who wants to reach his people for Jesus Christ and he sees much need for that in the local Ethiopian community. My time with him helped me to realize once again the precious Gospel we all share. The Gospel knows no language or cultural barriers it simply seeks to give life to all. It was great to meet a young man who is so dedicated to proclaiming it. My thoughts and prayers are with him in his ministry. Please pray for him, his wife and daughter and his new church.
